I was diagnosed with an auto-immune disorder called ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Pupura, also known as Immune Thrombocytopenia) on President's Day, 2016. Since then, I've been traveling the road of chronic illness, having some successes and some difficulties.
In learning more about ITP, I've found that there is quite a bit of negativity about the disease among those who endure it, particularly in social media areas. I can certainly understand and relate to that attitude, but for myself, I've found an attitude of optimism and gratitude to be much more helpful.
In light of that, the main purpose of this blog is to provide insight into the often difficult road of ITP, seen through a lens that is hopefully more prone to optimism and faith than might otherwise be the case.
You should come here knowing that my journey with ITP is absolutely, positively, and (I hope) irrevocably associated with my faith in God my Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christ, as well as my firm belief that, if I ask, They will help me carry any difficulties that I may have to endure. I believe in the power of prayer, and I believe in miracles, but I also believe that God knows better than me, and I would do well to accept His will in all things, including the hard stuff. ITP falls under the hard stuff for me a fair amount of the time. The things that I write will generally include these faith-influenced aspects of my journey, as I can't censor those parts and still tell my story adequately.
I'm a faithful, committed, lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm a true blue Mormon, dyed-in-the-wool. I use "Mormon Vocabulary" here, and for the sake of word flow, I'm not going to take the time to explain every word in that particular vernacular. However, I'm very open to questions, so if you want further details or explanations, please feel free to ask me whatever you like via e-mail (charlottelaughs@gmail.com)
Regardless, know that you don't have to believe as I do (in religion, ITP treatments, health in general, etc.) for me to like and respect you.
Welcome. I'm glad you found me.
Did I mention that I'm a little bit quirky? This was our Christmas Card Photo in 2016.
I'm definitely a little bit quirky.
